Porto Cervo, July 11, 2017. Today there were three hard fought races in southwesterly breezes between 12 and 15 knots. It was the final day of two days of racing in the waters off Porto Cervo in the Rolex Farr 40 Pre-Worlds organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.
After a total of six races in two days, victory went to Alex Roepers and his yacht, Plenty.
Terry Hutchinson, veteran tactician aboard Plenty, cautioned to not read too much into the scores. "I would say the results are a bit misleading and the gap between Plenty and Enfant Terrible is very small," the Annapolis-based professional said. "The difference in this regatta was slightly better upwind speed supported by superb teamwork."
After three races on race day 1, Alex Roepers / Plenty, sailing under the burgee of the New York Yacht Club, is in the lead with 6 points after taking 3rd, 1st and 2nd in today's racing.
Racing resumes Tuesday morning.
Roepers and his top-notch team on Plenty will make their season debut in the Gaeta Open, being held June 8-10 off the coast of this ancient city. Tactician Terry Hutchinson drilled the crew for several days in advance of the regatta, which features a solid five-boat fleet that includes another past world champion in Enfant Terrible.
