Inferno comes out on top in great battle for Corinthian title
Evan Jahn shared steering duties with his father as Flash Gordon 6 finished first or second in all 10 races to capture the 2017 North American Championship on her home waters of Chicago. It was the third straight North American crown and fourth overall for Flash, which finished 20 points clear of the runner-up entry.
Organizers of the Farr 40 Class Association are proud to announce that Chicago has been selected as site of the 2018 World Championship. Chicago Yacht Club will welcome the class from October 3 through 9, marking the second time the Windy City has hosted the Farr 40 World Championship.
Leif Sigmond, a Farr 40 owner since 2010, newly elected class president and current commodore of the Chicago Yacht Club, was thrilled that class management elected to come back to the city.
The first race of the Farr 40 Australian season took place today off Nielsen Park in lumpy conditions with a nor’ easter of 15 knots.
Class newcomer Tom Quick gave the fleet a taste of what’s to come this season by taking out his first race in stellar style. The father and son duo purchased Guido Belgiorno-Nettis’ Transfusion and with a crew of experienced Farr 40 sailors, won their first race.
The father and son team shared the helm this weekend and Tom left his dad in a good position of first place going into the final day of racing.
Alan said, "I didn't feel any pressure on me today to maintain Tom's lead and last night we just talked about enjoying the boat and having fun. The thing that struck me the most about today, is that there is no difference in boat speed. Anyone can win and it's a real team effort. We just made less mistakes than everyone else".
A social regatta later in September kicks-off the Farr 40’s 2017-18 season a month earlier than previous years, then the four weekend regattas staged between Sydney Harbour, Pittwater and Newcastle lead into the NSW title coinciding with the Middle Harbour Yacht Club’s (MHYC) established Sydney Harbour Regatta in March. Finally the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron (RSYS) will host the National Championship: John Calvert-Jones Trophy, also in March.
