Fleet turns attention to UNO Farr 40 European Championship
Istanbul, Turkey. 11th October 2011. The third and penultimate leg of the Farr 40 European Circuit concluded today with the welcome arrival of more stable conditions and saw three close-fought windward-leeward races held on the Sea of Marmara off Istanbul’s Ataköy Marina. Following several days in which variable meteorological conditions and shifty winds made life difficult for both organizers and participants, a hard-earned victory went to Charisma (MON), owned by Nico Poons, just one point ahead of Alberto Rossi’s Enfant Terrible (ITA). Jim Richardson’s Barking Mad (USA), took third. The eight participating crews will have a day off tomorrow while racing in the UNO Farr 40 European Championship - also valid as the fourth leg of the European Circuit – will take place from Thursday 13th through Sunday 16th October.

Nerone Victorious In Porto Cervo |
|
Porto Cervo, 2nd July 2011. Despite the best efforts of teams from Germany, Monaco and Turkey, the silverware in the second leg of the Farr 40 European Circuit, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Porto Cervo from 29th June to 2nd July, went to an all Italian trio. Massimo Mezzaroma and Antonio Sodo Migliori's Nerone never relinquished the top spot they gained on Day One while the battle for second place was won in the end by Alessandro Barnaba's Fiamma ahead of Alberto Rossi's Enfant Terrible.
A total of eight races were held, accompanied from start to finish by strong Mistral breezes which made for thrilling racing in this competitive one-design fleet and reached 35 knots at times, keeping the fleet in port on one scheduled race day. Although Nerone chalked up four bullets over the course of the series, two wins also went to Levent Peynirci's Provezza 8 (TUR) while Fiamma and Wolfgang Schaefer's Struntje Light (GER) took one victory each.

Nerone On Fire In Farr 40 European Circuit |
|
Porto Cervo, 1st July 2011. Nerone, Fiamma and Enfant Terrible continue to dominate the top spots among the Farr 40s gathered in Porto Cervo for the Settimana delle Bocche from 29th June to 2nd July. Following yesterday's enforced rest day caused by more than 30 knots of Mistral wind blowing off the north-east coast of Sardinia, the one-design yachts enjoyed spectacular racing off Porto Cervo today. The north-westerly breeze calmed just enough to allow the fleet, competing in the second leg of the European Circuit organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, to complete three races which showcased the speed and agility of these craft at their best.

The Turkish boat, owned by Levent Peynirci, was closely followed by Alessandro Barnaba's Fiamma while Alberto Rossi's Enfant Terrible took third place.

Mistral Keeps Farr 40 Fleet In Port |
|
Porto Cervo, 30th June 2011. Over thirty knots of Mistral wind kept the Farr 40s participating in the Settimana delle Bocche - Farr 40 European Circuit moored in Porto Cervo Marina on the second scheduled day of racing. The one-design fleet completed three thrilling races in perfect conditions yesterday but the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda's Race Committee was forced to postpone all races until tomorrow as the Mistral wind continued to strengthen over the course of the morning.
The renowned north-westerly wind which gives Porto Cervo one of the world's top regatta courses was just a little too strong for the 40-footers gathered for the second event of the European Circuit 2011. Fortunately, however, tomorrow's forecast promises more favourable conditions with the wind predicted to fall approximately 15 to 18 knots.
