Acura Key West Race Week 2009

Monday, 19 January 2009

Twelve Farr 40's have traveled to Key West for 2009 Key West Race Week.  Day One promises great racing for the fleet with  a forecast of 15 - 20 knot Westerly breezes and a high temperature forecast of 75F.  The only potential downside to the weather is a 50% chance of showers, but few will complain since most have left frigid temperatures behind at home.

The two newest boats in the fleet, current and three time Farr 40 World Champion Vincenzo Onorato's latest Mascalzone Latino and Helmut Jahn's three week old Flash Gordon VI will  see competition for the first time today.   Both were looking fast on the water while practicing yesterday.

Onorato's crew is dealing with injury and illness, but that may not be a bad omen for the team.  Last year, most of Jim Richardson's Barking Mad team battled the flu all week, but still came out at the top of the class and took home Boat of the Week honors as well.
