Goombay Smash Wins!

Miami (USA) – After three days of racing off Key Biscayne in Miami Florida, William Douglass’ Goombay Smash has won the event.  This is the second year in a row that Douglass has won this Anniversary Regatta, which in 2008 was also the Rolex North American Championship.  Eight teams from four countries, Australia, Canada, Italy and the USA have been competing in the annual Farr 40 class event held every November in Miami.

It's another perfect day for racing in Miami.  Race 8 started on time with 12 knots of breeze from 320 and the boats are sailing course 4, which is a 4 leg windward-leeward course.

At the top, the first time around, Nerone led the fleet, followed by regatta leader Goombay Smash, Plenty, Groovederci,Flash Gordon, Estate Master, Barking Mad and Defiant.

At the leeward mark, Nerone has extended their lead.  Goombay Smash and Plenty are still lying second and third, but behind them there have been a few changes.  Estate Master has moved up to forth.  Groovederci is now firth, followed by Defiant, Flash Gordon and Barking Mad.

After a picture perfect day of racing off Key Biscayne, Goombay Smash still holds the overall lead, but John Demourkas' Groovederci with race scores of 1- 3 -3 is Boat of the Day.

Miami (USA)  Goombay Smash is Boat of the Day on Day One of the 12th Anniversary Regatta

After 4 Races, William Douglass' Goombay Smash leads the regatta with only nine points.  Alex Roepers' Plenty is in 2nd place and tied on points with Helmut Jahn's Flash Gordon.  Racing resumes tomorrow @ 1100 off Key Biscayne.

Miami (USA) – Nerone wins Farr 40 12th Anniversary Match Racing

After two days of Match Racing off Key Biscayne in Miami Florida, Italian team Nerone owned by Massimo Mezzaroma won the event for the second year in a row.  Nerone has been successful in a number of Farr 40 Match Racing events in Miami and finished second to Jim Richardson’s Barking Mad in the 2009 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship. 

Alex Roepers’ Plenty from the USA finished second in the event with a 5-4 scorecard.  Canadian and new owner to the Farr 40 class Grant Hood and his team on Defiant finished in third with 2-7 after a tie breaker with the Australian team of Lisa & Martin Hill’s Estate Master taking forth.

These teams will join four other Farr 40 teams – reigning Farr 40 World Champion Jim Richardson and his team on Barking Mad (USA), reigning Farr 40 North American Champion Helmut Jahn and his Flash Gordon VI (USA) crew, 2008 Farr 40 North American Champion William Douglass and his Goombay Smash (USA) team and John Demourkas’s Groovederci (USA), at the 12th Anniversary Farr 40 Regatta. 

All eight teams will be fleet racing over the next three days in Miami as they utilize the time on the water in preparation for the 2010 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship in the Dominican Republic in April.
