About the Farr 40: Worlds 2011 Preview

In March 1997, the first Farr 40 hull was launched at Carroll Marine in Newport, Rhode Island. There are now 160 boats sailing in 20 countries.

The class has raced at some of the most famous yacht racing venues in the world, including Porto Cervo, Newport, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Cowes and, of course, Sydney Harbour.

One of the keys to the success of the class is that it is incorporated and run as a business, not as a “club”. Owners include successful businessmen and women, heads of state, private and public sector professionals and others from all walks of life.

The Farr 40 World Championships are sanctioned by the International Sailing Federation, meaning that the successful owner and crew are entitled to call themselves World Sailing Champions. 2011 will be the 14th official World Championship for the Class, highlighting its strength and popularity.
