Jim Richardson's Barking Mad wins 2005 East Coast Circuit |

Jim Richardson and his well-practiced crew aboard Barking Mad clinched the six event Farr 40 East Coast circuit with their victory at the last regatta hosted by the Ida Lewis Yacht Club. Their best four out of the six events were scored for the Circuit. Jeff Siegal’s Appreciation was second overall with Alexis Michas’ Phish Food close on their heels. Twenty-three boats competed in the series, with nine completing the required four events. Congratulations are in order as well for the boats that competed for the Corinthian trophy in each regatta – the winners were Dave Voss’ Piranha at the Jimmy Fund and East Coast Championships, John Thomson and the Solution crew at the NYYC Annual, Block Island and the Volkswagen regattas. Block Island Race Week had the most Corinthian trophy teams with six boats in the running. The teams were diverse this year – with collegiate teams from King’s Point Merchant Marine Academy and the US Coast Guard Academy going against previous World Champions and Corinthian crews. Fun was had by all at the social events, most notably the crew barbeque hosted by event winner Jim Richardson at his Newport home. Racing will heat up even more next year, with many out-of-town and foreign teams visiting to acclimate to Newport race conditions prior to the Worlds next fall.
