June 21 - Spain victorious at the Sardinia Rolex Cup - ISAF Offshore Team World Championship

Porto Cervo, Italy. 21st June 2008. The Sardinia Rolex Cup, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, came to a close today after a long wait for a breeze which did not materialize. The Race Committee waited until the final time limit of 3 p.m. before admitting defeat while Team Spain breathed a sigh of relief as the overall results after eight races became definitive and Spain claimed the title of ISAF Offshore Team World Champion for the third time (2000, 2004).

Pedro Campos, helmsman of the Spanish TP52 Bribon Telefonica was understandably pleased on his return to port: “ We are delighted with this victory: it was hard-fought with the Italian Team but in the end we did it. Yesterday we sealed things with three straight victories on the TP52. What a fantastic job from the whole team. This is my third victory in the Sardinia and my twelfth World Championship.”

June 14 - Nerone victorious at the Audi Farr 40 Cup

Porto Cervo, Italy. 14th June. Nerone (ITA), owned by Massimo Mezzaroma, helmed by Antonio Sodo Migliori with tactician Vasco Vascotto, is the overall winner of the Audi Farr 40 Cup, second leg of the Farr 40 European Circuit Med. Following a breathtaking final day’s racing during which the Sardinian mistral grew from 18 to 33 knots, just two points separated the top three boats in the final classification. Lang Walker’s Kokomo (AUS) took second place ahead of Vincenzo Onorato’s Mascalzone Latino (ITA) in this event organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in collaboration with the Farr 40 European Fleet Association.

“We managed to get in a race today to close this leg of the circuit in style.” commented Nerone’s helmsman Sodo Migliori after today’s fourth and final race. “ The wind really increased after the start, it got up to over 30 knots but nevertheless we were able to keep our adversaries in check today. So with the third place in race four added to good results in the previous races we won the series. I’m sorry for Massimo Mezzaroma who couldn’t be here but we’ve been on the phone to him and he is delighted with the result.”

May 7 - Class President Jim Richardson Named Seahorse Magazine Sailor of the Month for April

Congratulations to Farr 40 Class President Jim Richardson, who was voted "Sailor of the Month" for April by the readers of Seahorse magazine.  Despite an uncharacteristic 8th place finish at the 2008 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship, Richardson and his team aboard Barking Mad enyoyed a dominant season on the Farr 40 winter circuit, recording victories in the Farr 40 10th Anniversary Regatta, Acura Key West Race Week, and Acura Miami Grand Prix.  A two time world champion, Richardson has been a staple at the front end of the Farr 40 fleet for over a decade and we expect him to remain on top for quite some time.

"There is no curse of Seahorse Sailor of the Month, we know this because the 2008 Rolex Farr 40 worlds had concluded before we counted the votes../ but it was a shame that Jim's award - and a highly popular choice by the way - came as he was flying home having finished an untypical 8th overall. A modest consolation?" - from Seahorse Magazine - www.seahorse.co.uk
